Okay kiddo, have you ever played with a toy cannon that shoots out little balls? Well, a Galilean cannon is like a bigger version of that.
It's made up of two long tubes that are placed next to each other. One tube is shorter than the other, and they are both closed off at one end. When you put a ball into the longer tube and then quickly slam a heavy metal ball into the other end, it'll cause the ball in the longer tube to shoot out really fast.
This is because when the metal ball hits the shorter tube, it creates a shockwave that travels through the tubes and pushes the ball in the longer tube out. It's kinda like when you push a row of dominoes, and they all fall down one after another.
Galileo, a famous scientist, was actually the one who came up with this idea a long time ago. People still like to experiment with Galilean cannons today because they're a fun way to learn about physics!
