Gambeson

A gambeson is like a really thick, cozy jacket made out of special materials. It's not just any normal jacket though, it was worn by knights a long time ago to protect them from getting hurt in battles. When a knight wore armor, like their shiny metal suit, they still needed something soft underneath to protect them against blows from swords and maces. That's where the gambeson came in!

The gambeson has a lot of layers of padding that make it really thick and heavy. Imagine if you wore two or three coats on top of each other, that's how thick it is! But the padding is also really soft and squishy, like when you sit on a big pillow or a beanbag. It's made of different materials, like wool, hemp or even silk, which all make it really comfortable too.

When knights wore a gambeson, they were able to move around more easily and fight without getting hurt as easily. The gambeson would absorb the impact of a sword or mace, so even if the knight got hit, they wouldn't get hurt as badly. It was an important piece of armor that helped keep knights safe on the battlefield.

Nowadays, people still wear gambesons when they do historical reenactments or practice sword fighting. They might look a little different than the old ones, but their purpose is still the same - to protect you!
