ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ganglion cell

Okay kiddo, so our eyes are like cameras that take pictures and send them to our brain so we can see. But before the pictures get to our brain, they have to go through different parts of our eye. One part is called the ganglion cell.

The ganglion cell is like a worker that helps the pictures get to our brain. It is a type of cell that is located in the back of our eye, right behind the retina. The retina is the part of our eye that takes the pictures.

When the retina takes a picture, it sends a signal to the ganglion cell. The ganglion cell then takes that signal and sends it to our brain so we can see the picture. It's kind of like the ganglion cell is the messenger that tells our brain what the picture is.

But not all ganglion cells are the same. Some ganglion cells are sensitive to different things, like certain colors or movements. So, depending on which ganglion cell is sending the signal, our brain might see different things in the same picture.

Overall, ganglion cells are really important because without them, we wouldn't be able to see the pictures that our eyes take. They are like the workers that make sure the pictures get to our brain so we can see the world around us.
