Garbage truck

A garbage truck is a really big truck that goes around the neighborhood to pick up garbage. Imagine a big green or brown truck that has a rectangular back that moves up and down. This back part is called the hopper, where trash is dumped in.

The garbage truck collects trash that people put out on the curb, and the driver of the truck stops the truck and climbs out to collect the garbage from the bins or cans. The driver picks up the trash can and dumps the contents into the hopper at the back of the truck. Then, the truck compacts the trash so that it takes up less space, so they can fit more onto the truck.

When the truck finishes collecting all the garbage, it takes it to a special place called a landfill or recycling plant. There, the garbage is sorted, with things like plastic, glass and paper being separated for recycling. The rest of the trash is buried in the landfill, where it becomes covered with dirt and flattened down.
