The Garden City Movement was a way of planning cities so that people could live and work in a better, healthier place. It was started by a man named Ebenezer Howard in 1898. He believed that cities where there were lots of gardens, parks and open spaces, as well as streets with homes and businesses, would be more enjoyable and healthier for people to live in. He wanted to make sure that everyone in the city would have access to fresh air and natural beauty. He also wanted cities to be well-planned and organized with an efficient transportation system. To achieve this, Ebenezer Howard suggested that a city be built around a large park with homes, businesses, and other places like schools, hospitals, churches, and so on close by. He believed that this would create a kind of self-sustaining city that wouldn't need to rely on the outside world. To help this happen more quickly, he suggested that land be bought from private landowners and be turned into parks and green spaces. He also wanted people to be able to own the land that their home was on, which would make them feel safe and secure in their homes.
