Gary Powers
Gary Powers was a man who flew a special airplane called a spy plane for the United States government. His job was to fly high up in the sky and take pictures of other countries to see what they were doing.
One day, while flying over a country called Russia, Gary's plane stopped working and he had to jump out with a parachute. The government was really worried because Gary knew a lot of secrets about the spy plane and they didn't want Russia to find out.
But Russia did find him and they took him as a prisoner. Gary had to tell them all about the spy plane and what he knew. This made the government very embarrassed and upset because Gary wasn't supposed to tell anyone about it.
Eventually, Gary was released back to the United States in a prisoner exchange. He was no longer allowed to be a spy for the government because he had been caught.
