ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Gauss Prize

The Gauss Prize is an award that is given to really smart people who do amazing things with numbers. It's named after a guy named Carl Friedrich Gauss, who was really, really good with numbers. He was so good that he figured out math problems that nobody else could solve.

The people who get the Gauss Prize have done really important work that helps us understand things like how the world works, how we can use math to make things better, and even how we can predict things like weather and earthquakes.

It's kind of like if you just drew a really amazing picture with really cool colors and shapes and lines, and everybody was like "Wow, that's amazing! You're so good at art!" But instead of art, it's math. And instead of just pictures, these really smart people are figuring out really complicated problems and making new discoveries that help us do things better.
