ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Gay wage gap

So, when people work at a job, they get paid money for the work they do. But did you know that some people get paid less money for doing the same job, even though they are just as good at it? This is called the wage gap.

Now, when we talk about the gay wage gap, we mean that some people who are gay (or LGBTQ+) might get paid less money for doing the same job as someone who is straight. This is not fair, because everyone should be paid based on their skills and abilities, not on who they love or how they identify.

Imagine you and your friend both work at the same store and do the same job, but your friend gets paid more than you just because they are different from you. This is not right, is it?

The same thing happens with the gay wage gap, and it is important that we work together to make sure everyone is paid fairly for the work they do, no matter who they are or who they love.
