ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

General practice

General practice is like having a doctor who helps you stay healthy and treats you when you are sick. Just like a teacher knows about all the different subjects, a general practitioner or "GP" knows about all the different parts of the body and how they work.

When you visit a GP, they will ask you questions about how you're feeling, listen to your heartbeat and breathing, and may also look at your ears, nose, and throat. They may also take a small amount of blood or urine to check if everything is okay inside your body.

A GP can help with lots of different things like feeling unwell, having a cough or cold, getting vaccinations or immunizations, and even helping you with advice about staying healthy.

It's important to visit a GP regularly, even if you're not feeling sick, so that they can help you stay healthy and find any problems early, so they can be treated before they become serious. And it's also important to tell your GP if you feel worried or scared about anything, as they are always here to help you.
