ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

General protection fault

General Protection Fault (GPF) is a type of error that can happen on a computer. Think of it like a stop sign: when your computer runs into a GPF, it means it needs you to take action to help it get back on track.

GPF can be caused by a few different things. One problem might be that a program asks your computer to do something that it can't do. This might be because the program is trying to do something beyond what your computer can do, or because it is asking your computer to do something in a way that it doesn't understand.

Another cause of GPF might be when a program enters the wrong information, like a wrong password. This could cause your computer to get confused and crash, resulting in a GPF.

When a GPF happens, it will usually display a message on your screen, telling you that there was a problem. The message will also have some information that you can use to help figure out what caused the GPF. You can then decide whether you need to take action to fix the problem, or if this happened because of a mistake in the program.
