Okay, so imagine you have a bunch of pictures of different dogs, but they are all a little bit different sizes and shapes. Now you want to compare these pictures and see if they are similar.
That's where something called generalized procrustes analysis comes in. It is a fancy way of making these pictures the same shape and size so we can compare them easily.
To do this, we first pick one picture as the "template" or the one we want all the other pictures to look like. Then, we stretch or shrink all the other pictures to match the size of the template. We also rotate and move the pictures so that the eyes, nose, and mouth are all in the same place.
Once we have made all the pictures the same size and shape, we can compare them easily because they are all in the same position. This helps us to see if they have any differences or similarities, like which breed of dog they might be.
So generalized procrustes analysis is a useful tool for comparing things that might be a little different at first, like pictures of dogs or any type of object.
