ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Genesis 14

Okay kiddo, do you remember the story of Abraham, the man who was promised a son by God and ended up having Isaac? Well, in this story, Abraham and his nephew Lot were living in a place called Canaan. But some kings from other places came and started a war with the kings of Canaan.

During the war, the kings of Canaan lost and Lot was taken as a prisoner. When Abraham heard this, he gathered his servants who were trained to fight and set out to rescue Lot.

On their way, they met a man named Melchizedek who was a high priest and king of a city called Salem. He gave Abraham bread and wine to eat and blessed him. Abraham also gave Melchizedek a tenth of all his belongings as a gift.

Abraham and his servants then caught up with the kings who had taken Lot as a prisoner. They fought with them and won, freeing Lot and taking back all the stolen goods.

After this, the king of Sodom, who had been defeated, offered to give Abraham all the goods they had taken, but Abraham refused. He didn't want to take anything that didn't belong to him and didn't want the king of Sodom to say he had made him rich.

So, in this story, we see Abraham being brave and fighting to rescue Lot, meeting a holy man who blessed him and giving him a gift, and being honest and refusing to take things that didn't belong to him.
