ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Genrikh Kasparyan

Genrikh Kasparyan was a really smart chess player who lived a long time ago. He was born in Armenia in 1910 and he learned how to play chess when he was just four years old! He was really good at it, and he became one of the best chess players in the world.

Kasparyan was known for being really good at something called "endgame" chess. That means he was really good at figuring out how to finish a game of chess when there were only a few pieces left on the board. He was really good at seeing how all the pieces could move and figuring out the best way to win the game.

He wrote a lot of books about chess and endgame chess, so lots of other people who liked chess could learn from him too. He even invented something called a "study," which is a really cool kind of chess problem that challenges your brain to think really hard.

Even though Kasparyan passed away many years ago, he still has a big influence on how people play chess today. People still study his games and his writings to learn more about how to be better at chess.
