Geology of the Lassen volcanic area

Okay kiddo, let's learn about geology in the Lassen Volcanic Area! Imagine you are playing with some play-dough, and you squeeze it really hard. That's kind of what happened here a really long time ago.

A long, long time ago, hot molten rock called magma was under the earth's surface. The magma was under a lot of pressure, and eventually, it squeezed out of the ground and became lava. The lava was so hot that it melted the rocks around it and made them kind of mushy too. This is how the mountains in the Lassen Volcanic Area were formed!

There's a big volcano called Lassen Peak that erupted many years ago. When it erupted, it spewed out a bunch of lava, ash, and rock that piled up on top of each other and formed a mountain! That's why Lassen Peak looks like a big pile of rocks!

Another cool thing about the Lassen Volcanic Area is that there are a lot of hot springs and geysers. When the magma underneath the ground gets close to the surface, it heats up the water and makes it come out of the ground as steam or hot water! This is why there are so many bubbling and steaming pools around the area.

So that's a quick lesson on the geology of the Lassen Volcanic Area! Remember, it's all about hot magma turning into lava and melting rocks to form mountains, and also heating up water to make hot springs and geysers!
