Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is an anime series set in the future. In the show, there are creatures called "Shells" that are made out of a combination of machines and organic aspects. These Shells are made to be able to think and feel like humans and blend in and live in society. They are called "stand alone complex" because each individual shell is an individual with its own thoughts and feelings. The stories in the series follow the Shells as they try to understand what it means to be human.
