Giteau's law

Giteau's Law is a rule in rugby that allows a team to substitute one of their players who has been taken off the field for an injury with a different player who has not yet played in the game.

For example, if a player called John gets hurt and needs to be taken off the field, his team can send in a new player, let's call him Steve, to replace him. But normally, rugby rules say that Steve couldn't play if he wasn't already on the field at the beginning of the game.

However, thanks to Giteau's Law, Steve can now come into the game, even if he wasn't part of the original lineup. This helps teams who might have several injured players but don't have anyone else to replace them with.

Giteau's Law was named after a rugby player from Australia called Matt Giteau, who was not selected for the World Cup in 2015 because he was playing for a club team in France at the time. Despite this, the Australian Rugby Union changed their rules to allow Giteau to play for the national team anyway, since he was considered an important player. This change to the rules became known as Giteau's Law.
