ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Glass formation

When we make a glass, we melt some special materials together, like sand or rocks. Then, we let it cool down really fast, so it doesn't have enough time to arrange itself and turn into a solid crystal. Instead, it becomes a glass! Think of it like a bunch of toys on the floor. If you have time to pick them all up and put them in their places, it's like they are arranged in a perfect crystal pattern. But if you have to pick them up super fast and put them in a box before the timer runs out, they will be all jumbled up like a glass. Sometimes, glass is hard and transparent like a window, and sometimes it's soft and stretchy like a rubber band. It all depends on how the materials were melted and cooled!
