Glaucoma is a type of eye condition where pressure builds up in the eyeball. This pressure can damage the optic nerve, which is the nerve that carries information from the eyes to the brain. When damaged, the brain can't get the right signals from the eye, which means that vision can become blurry and you may have trouble seeing. In some cases, if the condition is not treated, you can even become totally blind. To treat glaucoma, doctors give medicine to help lower the pressure in the eye and slow down the damage to the optic nerve. They may also perform surgery to try and prevent the pressure from getting too high.
