ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Global anomaly

Imagine you are playing a game where you have to count how many apples there are in a basket. You know that there should be ten apples, but when you count, you find eleven apples instead. This extra apple is called an anomaly because it doesn't fit the pattern you were expecting.

Similarly, in the world we live in, we have things that we expect to work in a certain way. For example, we expect the weather to change in a predictable pattern throughout the year. However, sometimes we see things happening that don't fit this pattern, like extreme heat or cold, or floods where it's never flooded before.

These unexpected events are called global anomalies because they happen on a large scale all over the world. Scientists study global anomalies to understand why they're happening and how we can prepare for them. It's important to study these anomalies because they can have a big impact on our lives and the world around us.
