Gonadotropin-releasing hormone

Okay kiddo, so you know how our body has a lot of different parts that do different things? One of the really important parts is our brain, which tells all the other parts what to do.

One job the brain has is to make sure that our body can make babies when we are old enough. This is where a special hormone called gonadotropin-releasing hormone (or GnRH for short) comes in.

GnRH is made in a part of the brain called the hypothalamus and it tells another part of our body called the pituitary gland to make two important hormones called luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).

These hormones help our body make sperm if you are a boy, or eggs if you are a girl. They also help other parts of our body do important things like making sure we grow strong and healthy bones.

So, GnRH is like the boss of the pituitary gland, telling it what to do so that our body can be ready to make babies, grow healthy, and do all the other things it needs to do. Pretty cool, huh?
