Gottlieb Daimler was a very smart man who lived a long time ago. He was born in 1834 in Germany. Back then, people didn't have cars like we do now. They had to ride horses or use really slow, clunky carts that were pulled by animals.
However, when Gottlieb grew up, he realized that there was a better way to travel. He came up with an idea to make a special engine that could move a vehicle without having to use animals or people to pull it. It was called an internal combustion engine.
Gottlieb worked really hard and figured out how to make the engine work. He put it in a big cart that he called a "motorwagon." It was like a car, but much simpler and only big enough for two people. The motorwagon was able to go really fast and it didn't need horses to pull it. Pretty cool, right?
Lots of people were amazed by Gottlieb's invention. They thought it was the coolest thing ever! More and more people wanted to have their own "cars" like the motorwagon, and Gottlieb helped make that happen. He went on to make other important inventions that helped make cars even better and safer to drive.
Today, we still use the inventions and ideas that Gottlieb came up with over a hundred years ago. He was a very smart man who helped change the way we travel and get around.
