Gouda cheese is a yummy type of cheese that comes from Holland. It's made by taking milk from cows and heating it up until it turns into curds (think of these as little solid pieces) and whey (think of this as the liquid part). The curds are then put into a big mold and pressed so they stick together and become solid.
After that, the cheese is soaked in a saltwater solution to make it taste good and to help it last longer. The cheese is then left to age (or mature) for a few weeks or even months. During that time, it may be treated with special bacteria that help to give it a certain flavor and texture.
When the cheese is ready, it can be cut up into slices or chunks and enjoyed on its own or added to sandwiches or other dishes. Yum!
