ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Government by Journalism

Well, imagine you're playing a game of pretend where you're the leader of your family or friends. You make all the rules and decisions, like what to have for dinner or when to play outside. Now, imagine that instead of being in charge, you let someone else make all those decisions for you. That person is called a journalist, and together with loads of other journalists, they make up something called the media.

So, government by journalism means that instead of having one person or group of people run the country and make all the decisions, we rely on journalists and the media to tell us what's happening and why it matters. They investigate important issues, like crime or politics or climate change, and then they write articles or make videos or podcasts to share that information with us.

This means that instead of just taking the word of the people in charge, we can use journalism to make informed decisions and hold our leaders accountable for their actions. It's kind of like having a secret weapon that helps us see the bigger picture and make sure everyone is being fair and honest.
