Government involvement in the Terri Schiavo case

Okay kiddo, there was a lady named Terri Schiavo who was very sick and couldn't take care of herself. Her husband and parents disagreed about whether or not to keep her alive with medical treatment. The government got involved because laws were made that said they had to make sure she was being taken care of properly. Some people thought the government should make sure she stayed alive, while others thought it was up to her family to decide. In the end, the courts decided that Terri's husband had the final say because he was her legal guardian, and they decided to take her off life support.
