ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Grötzsch's theorem

Grötze's Theorem is like a rule that helps people who like to play with shapes figure out what is the biggest number of colors they need to use to color in any shapes they want without any same colors touching each other.

So imagine you have a bunch of shapes, like squares and triangles and circles, and you want to color them in without any part of two same colors touching each other. Grötze's Theorem helps you figure out how many different colors you need to use to do this for any shape, no matter how many sides it has or how complicated it looks.

The rule says that you can always color in any shape using only 4 colors. That means you can choose 4 different colors, like blue, red, yellow, and green, and you can color any shape you want without any two parts of the same color touching each other.

This is important because it helps people who like math and shapes understand more about how things work and how they can solve problems. It is also interesting because it shows that even complex shapes can be understood and solved using simple rules.
