ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Grade levels

Okay, so imagine you're in a big group of kids that all go to school. Everyone is different ages and sizes, right? That's because different kids are usually in different grade levels!

When you start school, you're usually around 5 or 6 years old, and you start in something called kindergarten. This is the first grade level that many kids go to!

After kindergarten, you usually move on to first grade, then second grade, and so on. Usually, you'll stay in one grade level for one whole school year. That's because every grade level is designed to teach you different things and help you grow in different ways!

So, if you're in kindergarten, your teacher might teach you how to read and write your name. But if you're in third or fourth grade, your teacher might be teaching you more complicated things like multiplication, division, and writing longer stories.

Each grade level can be a little bit different, but they're all super important for helping you learn! And when you get to high school, you'll usually have something called "freshman," "sophomore," "junior," and "senior" years instead of grade levels.

But no matter what grade level you're in, remember that learning is always important and fun!
