Gravitational waves

Gravitational waves are a kind of wave, like sound waves or water waves. What makes them different is that instead of going through air or water, these waves go through space! They travel at the speed of light, carrying energy from distant places throughout the universe. When these waves pass through something, like Earth, they cause small changes in the things they pass through. But these changes are usually too small for us to notice. Scientists use special tools to measure these tiny changes, so that we can learn more about space and faraway places like black holes and galaxies!
