ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Gravity of Earth

Imagine that you're playing with your toys on the floor, and you drop a ball. What do you think will happen? The ball will fall down towards the ground, right?

That's because of a special force called gravity. Every object in the universe has gravity, which pulls other objects towards it. The bigger an object is, the more gravity it has. That's why the Earth has a lot of gravity – it's very big!

When you jump or throw something, the gravity of the Earth pulls you and the object back down to the ground. Even though you can't see it, you can feel it. That's why you don't float away into space!

Gravity is what keeps you and everything else on Earth from flying off into space. It's also what makes the Earth and other planets orbit around the sun. Scientists have studied gravity for a long time, and they know a lot about how it works. But even they still have questions about this mysterious force that keeps us grounded on our planet!
