The Great Famine in Ireland was a very sad time in Ireland's history. It lasted from about 1845 to 1852. During this time, a disease called potato blight attacked Ireland's potato crops. Potatoes were a major food source for poor Irish families and when the crop was destroyed, people were very hungry. A lot of people died of hunger and disease during the famine and many others had to move away from Ireland in search of food and a better life. It was a hard time for Ireland and many people still remember it today.
