Greenhouse gas inventory is like counting how many candy bars you have in your candy jar. But instead of candy, we are counting how much gas is in the air that can make our Earth too warm.
You see, when we burn fossil fuels like gasoline to run cars or coal to make electricity, they make a gas called carbon dioxide (CO2) and release it into the air. These gases are called greenhouse gases because they trap heat from the sun in our atmosphere, making the Earth warmer than it should be.
The greenhouse gas inventory is when scientists or people in charge count how much of these gases are being made all over the world. They go around with special machines that measure the amount of gases in the air in different places like cities or farms. They also look at how much gas is being made from things like factories, trucks, and airplanes.
The count is important because it helps us figure out how much gas we can still make without making the Earth too warm, like having too many candy bars in the jar. If we keep making too much gas, it can cause really bad things to happen like hurricanes, droughts, and rising sea levels. So, we want to keep an eye on how much gas we are making and try to slow down making too much.
