ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Growing Up Straight (Wyden and Wyden book)

Growing up straight is a book that talks about how people learn to identify as heterosexual as they grow up.

When you are born, you don't know if you like boys or girls or both. You just know that you like some things and don't like others. As you get older, you start to notice things about boys and girls that you like or don't like. Some people start to like boys and some people start to like girls.

The book says that most people end up liking boys or girls based on things like their culture, their family, and their experiences. For example, if you live in a place where being gay is not accepted, you might be more likely to identify as straight because you think that's what everyone expects of you.

But it's important to know that everyone is different, and there are many ways to be happy and find love. Whether you grow up straight, gay, bi, or something else, the most important thing is to be true to yourself and love who you are.
