ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Growth in United Nations membership

The United Nations is a big club of countries from all over the world. It is like when you join a group with your friends, except this group has countries as members. Over time, more and more countries want to join the club because they think it is important to work together and solve problems together.

When the United Nations was first created in 1945, there were only 51 countries in the club. But as time went by, more countries wanted to join. Today, there are 193 countries in the United Nations club! That's a lot of members!

Each time a country wants to join the club, they have to meet certain rules and requirements. For example, they have to be recognized as a real country by other countries, and they have to promise to follow the rules of the United Nations.

As more and more countries join the club, it becomes a stronger and more diverse group. With each new member, the United Nations grows in its ability to help countries work together, solve problems, and create a better world for everyone.
