ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Guarantee Clause

The guarantee clause is a part of the United States Constitution that says the federal government must guarantee that all states have a republican form of government. This means that the leaders of each state, like the governor and other officials, should be chosen by the people who live there and not by a king or queen or other people who might try to take control of the state. The federal government is responsible for making sure that each state is following this rule and has a government that is fair and represents the people who live there. Think of it like a teacher making sure everyone is playing by the same rules on the playground to make sure everyone is being treated fairly.
