Okay kiddo so imagine playing your guitar and instead of just regular notes, you make these really cool sounds that almost sound like magic bells or chimes. That's called a guitar harmonic!
Here's how it works. When you play a note on your guitar, the string vibrates back and forth to create that sound. But if you lightly touch the string in a certain spot, you can make it vibrate in a special way that creates a harmonic sound. It's like when you run your finger around the rim of a glass to make it sing.
These special spots where you can create a harmonic are called "nodal points" and they're located at different spots on the guitar neck depending on which note you're playing. To play a harmonic, you put your finger gently on the string right above the nodal point (without pressing down), and pluck the string with your other hand.
The result is a magical sound that can be used in lots of different ways in your music. You can even make chords with harmonics – just touch the strings in the right spots and pluck them all at once!
So that's it, little one! Next time you're playing your guitar, try making some guitar harmonics and you'll be amazed by the beautiful sounds you can create.
