ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Gypsy (term)

The word "gypsy" is sometimes used to describe a group of people who originally came from India and now live in Europe, North America, and other parts of the world. This word is not always the best choice as it can be considered hurtful to some people.

A long time ago, people moved from India to other places like Europe. They had different ways of living and dressing from the people in those places. They started to be called "gypsies" by those people because they thought they were like travelers or wanderers.

However, some people don't like being called "gypsies" because it can make them feel like they are being judged or treated unfairly. They might prefer to be called by their specific group name, like Roma or Sinti.

It's important to remember that everyone deserves to be treated with respect, no matter where they come from or what they look like.
