ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Høgnorsk

Høgnorsk is a way of speaking and writing Norwegian language that tries to keep it as close as possible to how people spoke and wrote the language a long time ago. It is like keeping the language the same way it was when your great-great-grandparents spoke it.

Just like how you might have a favorite toy that you don't want to change or a special shirt that you always wear, people who like høgnorsk think that the old way of speaking and writing Norwegian is really special and they don't want it to change.

However, not everyone likes høgnorsk. Some people think that it can be hard to understand, just like how you might not understand everything your older relatives say sometimes.

So, while høgnorsk is a way of keeping the Norwegian language the same, some people might prefer to speak and write Norwegian differently.
