ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

H.245

Okay kiddo, so have you ever played with walkie-talkies before? When you press a button on one walkie-talkie, it sends a message to the other walkie-talkie. H.245 is kind of like that, but for video calls and other stuff grown-ups do on the internet.

When people have a video call using something like Skype or Zoom, they want to be able to do lots of things, like share their screens or send files. H.245 helps make this happen by acting like the buttons on a walkie-talkie. Instead of pressing a button, the devices send messages back and forth to each other using H.245.

These messages tell the devices what the other person wants to do, and then the devices can work together to make it happen. For example, if you wanted to share a drawing you made with your friend during a video call, you would press a button that would send a message through H.245 to your friend's device. This message would say "I want to share my drawing with you!" and then your friend's device would know what to do because of the message it received.

So basically, H.245 helps video calls and other internet stuff work better by allowing devices to talk to each other and work together. Just like how walkie-talkies help people talk to each other when they're far away!
