ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Haiku

Haiku is a type of poetry that has only three lines. The first and last lines have five syllables, and the middle line has seven syllables. Syllables are like little beats that make up words, like when you clap your hands or stomp your feet.

Haikus usually talk about nature, like flowers, trees, animals, or seasons. They try to capture a moment or feeling in just a few words, like taking a picture with words. Haikus are like a puzzle to solve, where you have to count the syllables and figure out what the poem is saying.

People in Japan invented haiku a long time ago, and they are still popular today all over the world. Some people even make haikus as a fun game, trying to come up with the best haiku with their friends or family.
