Haldi Kumkum

Haldi Kumkum is a traditional custom that happens in India where women invite other women to their house and offer them turmeric (haldi) and vermilion (kumkum) powder. These powders are usually kept in small containers called vatis.

The women who are invited to the house wear traditional attire and put a little bit of the turmeric and vermilion powder on their foreheads. They do this with the help of their index fingers by making small dots or lines called bindis.

Turmeric, also known as haldi, is a spice that is commonly used in Indian cuisine for its health benefits. It is believed to have antiseptic and healing properties, and can also be used as a beauty treatment for the skin.

Vermilion, on the other hand, is a bright red powder that is made from cinnabar, a naturally occurring mineral. It is considered to be a symbol of good luck and prosperity in Indian culture and is often used in religious ceremonies.

Overall, Haldi Kumkum serves as a way for women to come together and socialize while also taking part in a fun and meaningful cultural tradition.
