ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Half-side formula

Okay, imagine you have a pizza and you want to share it equally among your friends but you don't want to cut it into regular slices.

So, you decide to cut it in half but not straight down the middle. Instead, you cut it at an angle. This creates two unequal portions where one side is larger than the other.

Now, let's say you want to calculate the area of the larger portion. This is where the half-side formula comes in.

You can use this formula to find the area of a triangle when you know the length of one side and the lengths of the two adjacent angles.

The formula looks like this: (1/2) x a x b x sin(C), where a is the known side, b is the unknown side (in this case, the longer side of the pizza), and C is the angle between them.

So, to find the area of the larger portion of the pizza, you would use the half-side formula with the known side being the shorter side of the pizza, the unknown side being the longer side, and the included angle being the angle between those two sides.

And there you have it! That's how the half-side formula works. It helps you find the area of a triangle when you only know one side and two adjacent angles.
