Halftone

Okay kiddo, have you ever looked at a picture in a newspaper or a comic book and noticed that it looks like it's made up of tiny dots of different colors? Those are called halftones!

When we want to print a colored picture, we can't just use one solid color because that would make it look weird and not realistic. So, we use halftones to create the illusion of different colors.

Imagine you have a picture of a green apple that you want to print. To make it look like it's different shades of green, we need to break it up into tiny dots. The more dots there are in one area, the darker the green will look. And the less dots there are, the lighter the green will look.

So, we take that picture of the green apple and we use a special software to turn it into a pattern of tiny dots. Then, we can print that pattern on paper using different colored ink.

Overall, halftones help us create colored pictures that look realistic and detailed. Pretty cool, huh?
