Hanging in the United States

Hanging is when a person is sentenced to death and the punishment is carried out by tying a rope around their neck and hanging them from a high place until they die. In the United States, hanging was a legal form of execution in some states until the 20th century, but now it is illegal in all states. This is because it is considered to be a cruel and unusual punishment. Instead, states use methods like lethal injection or electrocution to carry out the death penalty. Many people debate whether or not the death penalty should even be allowed, as it is a very serious punishment and can be controversial.
