ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hard engineering

Hard engineering is like big muscles to protect the land and the people who live there. Just as muscles help protect our bones, hard engineering helps protect the land and people from getting hurt by things like floods or erosion. Hard engineering is when people use big machines and materials like concrete, rocks, and steel to build barriers, walls, or structures to prevent things like flooding, landslides, or erosion. This is done to make sure that the land stays where it is supposed to and people are safe from any harm that may happen to them. Just like how we put on helmets and pads to protect ourselves while playing games, we use hard engineering to protect our environment and the people living there.
