ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Haredim and Zionism

Okay, kiddo, so there are some people who are called "haredim" and some people who are called "zionists." Let's start with what those words mean.

"Haredim" are a group of Jews who are very religious and have a certain way of living their lives. They wear special clothes, follow lots of rules, and believe that their way of life is the only true way to be a proper Jew.

"Zionists" are people who believe that Jewish people should have their own country, called Israel. They think that Jews should be able to live in Israel and have their own government, just like other countries have.

Now, some haredim don't like zionism because they believe that only God can bring the Jewish people back to Israel and create a Jewish country there. They think that it's not right for people to just decide to create a country like that. They also don't like some of the things that go on in Jewish society in Israel, like the way people dress and the movies and TV shows that are popular.

On the other hand, some haredim do support zionism and believe that the Jewish people have a right to their own country in Israel. They might still have some issues with the way things are run in Israel, but they think that it's important for Jewish people to have a place to call their own.

So, to sum up, haredim and zionists have different beliefs about whether Jewish people should have their own country in Israel. Some haredim support this idea, while others don't.
