Headline inflation

Headline inflation is a measure of how quickly prices for goods and services are increasing in a particular period of time. It is usually reported as a percentage, like 4%, which means the prices for goods and services in the period of time are 4% higher than in the same period the year before. Headline inflation helps economists understand if the cost of living is going up or down.
