ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Heautoscopy

Heautoscopy is like when you look in a mirror and see yourself, but imagine if you saw yourself twice – once standing in front of the mirror, and another floating above you. It's like seeing a ghost version of yourself. This can happen to people when they have some kind of experience that makes them feel like they're outside of their own body. They might feel like they're watching themselves from a distance, or like they're floating above their body looking down at themselves. It's a strange feeling that can be scary, but sometimes people find it interesting too. Scientists are still trying to figure out why this happens and what it can tell us about the human brain.
