ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Helper application

A helper application is like a friend who helps you do something that you can't do on your own. It's a type of computer program that works together with another program to help it do its job better. For example, let's say you want to watch a video on the internet, but your computer doesn't know how to play that type of video. You might have a helper application installed that can play that type of video for you.

Think of it like this: the helper application is like a chef's assistant. The chef (your main program) is in charge of creating the meal (doing its job), but the assistant (helper application) helps by chopping vegetables, washing dishes, and doing other tasks that make the meal turn out better.

So whenever your main program needs help doing something, it can ask the helper application for assistance. This way, your computer can do a wider variety of tasks, and you can get more done!
