Herculaneum
Herculaneum is a really old town that was buried under lots and lots of rocks and ash a long time ago. A big and powerful mountain, called Vesuvius, suddenly erupted and blew up all the hot ash and rocks everywhere. It was like a really big and scary explosion! This happened in the olden times, a really, really long time ago. When people finally found Herculaneum again, they saw that so much ash and rocks had covered it up that they could hardly see the town anymore.
It was like a giant treasure hunt! People had to carefully dig through all the rocks and ash with special tools to find the things that people in Herculaneum used to have. They were looking for things like old coins, jewelry, plates, statues, and other things that people in Herculaneum would have had.
Now, some people visit Herculaneum to learn about the olden times and see the cool things that people found while searching through the rocks and ash.
