ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Heterogeneous database system

Imagine you have a bunch of different toys, each with their own special parts that make them unique. Now imagine you have a special toy box, called a database. Instead of just throwing all of the toys in together like a normal toy box, you have to organize them so you can find what you need easily.

A heterogeneous database system is like this special toy box, but for a bunch of different types of toys we call "data." Some types of data need special tools or methods to find or use them, just like some toys.

So, a heterogeneous database system is a special place where you can store all different kinds of data, but you have to make sure it is organized in a way that makes sense and can be found easily. Just like how you have to sort your toys by size or color, a heterogeneous database system sorts your data by type and provides special tools to help you find what you need.
