ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Heterogony of ends

Heterogony of ends is a big word for a big idea! It means that when you make a plan to do something, the ends that you get are not exactly the same as what you were expecting. For example, let's say you want to buy a new toy. You could save your allowance and buy the toy, but when you are done saving your money, what you actually get is not just the toy but you also learn about patience and how to save for something you really want! See, even though you started out with the plan to just buy the toy, the end result is much bigger: you also got to practice patience. That is heterogony of ends!
